The Ramones tribute album, We’re A Happy Family will finally see the light of day on February 11. The tracklisting reads like this:

Strangely absent from the tracklisting is a version of “Danny Says” by the Foo Fighters, which the band was rumored to have recorded during the first set of sessions for One By One, which were later scrapped and re-recorded. Perhaps the song will be released as a b-side on an upcoming single.

i just downloaded this album, not bad, but any Ramones tribute without a track from Screeching Weasel or The Queers seems incomplete.
Agreed…there are a number of bands that would be much better suited to cover Ramones songs than Marilyn Manson or Pete Yorn…especially Screeching Weasel and The Queers. But, I pretty much feel that there has never been a good Ramones cover song, since it is nearly impossible to capture the distinctive essence of their sound. Yes, Ramones songs are easy to play, but without Joey singing and Johnny’s guitar playing, it just sounds weird to me. Even though they have influenced countless bands to play punk rock, they still don’t sound like any other band in the history of music…they just sound like the Ramones. And although the gesture of respect is understood, any band that prides themselves on their talent as musicians, sounds plain silly when trying to glorify the simplicity that made the Ramones great. For instance, I can’t imagine anyone playing “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” and taking it completely seriously (as Pete Yorn probably does). It is not a great song on its own (it’s pretty goofy, really), but it beams with greatness when the Ramones play it because they play it with a genuine spirit that comes straight from the heart. No true Ramones fan would want to listen to any other band play their songs. Sure it’s fun, but I wouldn’t listen to this album more than once, and not for anything other than shits and giggles. I think Joey would think this tribute album is silly too. Rock ‘n’ Roll High School forever!!!!!!
